Our Eye Examination uses the latest diagnostic equipment to perform a state-of-the-art assessment on the health of your eyes and spectacle prescription. We routinely check for eye diseases like macular degeneration, cataracts, Glaucoma and Diabetes, as well as recommending the best visual solution for each patient’s needs.
Tonometry
Our newest addition to the practice is the latest Tonometer, which now has the capability to measure the thickness of the cornea before recording the pressure of the eye. This valuable additional information then allows us to identify those patients at risk of developing Glaucoma, and make referral for early treatment possible.
Slit Lamp
This advanced microscope captures the front and back of the eye, allowing an in-depth assessment to identify the early causes of dry eye disease and other more serious eye conditions.
Optomap Retinal Imaging
Máire O’Neill Opticians, being one of very few practices in Ireland to have an Optomap machine, are proud to be able to offer our patients the chance to benefit from this advanced technology.
The Optomap non-invasively captures an instantaneous, ultra-widefield digital image of the retina. This image is captured in less than half a second using low-powered laser wavelengths that scan simultaneously. This image then provides the optometrists with a view of approximately 82% of your retina, and helps with evaluating your eye health. This provides the optometrist with a tool to help discover retinal disease, and assist in the diagnosis of eye conditions early. It also enables the practitioner to effectively determine the next course of action. Early detection of any retinal abnormality may lead to earlier and safer treatments, and in many cases prevent vision loss.
Visual Fields
The latest automated visual field screener allows a detailed analysis of your visual field to identify conditions such as glaucoma and strokes. This test involves focussing on a centre spot and hitting a button every time you see a light in the side of your vision.
Computerised Eye Charts
Our consulting room has the latest Thompson computerised eye charts to ensure the highest accuracy in determining each patient’s spectacle and contact lens prescription.
Best Visual Solution
At the completion of each eye examination, our optometrist will take into consideration factors such as your career, lifestyle and hobbies, and will give informed advice on what product is best suited for you.
